Daycare:
The world over mothers who work to support their families need reliable day care so they can have worry free days.
There is a small day care facility on the mission that serves the local parish for the very few families that can afford the fees after all their earnings are spent on food, clothing and taking care of themselves and their many unemployed relatives. Nothing remains to send their children to Day Care while they work.
WITH YOUR HELP WE PLAN TO CHANGE THAT
Education:
Children of artisans used to go to school as a matter of course. In their neat uniforms took pride in their education. Now it is a struggle for parents to pay the school fees and if they manage to overcome that the schools themselves lack teachers, books and basic learning tools.
WITH YOUR HELP WE PLAN TO CHANGE THAT
Food:
With the price of food skyrocketing every single day (with 100,000% inflation money devalues by half every day of the week) buying food even when available has become a nightmare. Cash enough to buy food for the week today, is no longer enough by the following day. Families can no longer keep up.
Clean Water:
Prior to 2006 fresh clean water was pumped through well maintained pipes to populations in both rural and urban areas.
Now the purification chemicals are no longer available, sewage systems are unmaintained, overflowing into the streets and mixing with the drinking water.
Families are developing water-born illnesses. Absences from work are becoming commonplace.
WITH YOUR HELP WE PLAN TO CHANGE ALL THAT
Health Counseling:
Women are at constant risk for contracting AIDS. There is a great need for counseling by health care professionals to provide information about risk factors and prevention. Women are afraid to speak up. Even discussion about AIDS is still rare because it is a disease that is considered tabu. People and families who openly admit to having it are shunned. They just die, their families hold funerals and cause of death is not discussed. Every week there are funerals.
